For individuals aged 50 and above, retiring in Mauritius presents a compelling opportunity. With a monthly income of just USD 1500, you can secure a 10-year Residence Permit, allowing you to enjoy a tranquil environment. This permit also opens the door to applying for a 20-year Permanent Residence Permit after three consecutive years.

Investment Rights for Retired Non-Citizens +50 Years

A holder of a residence permit as a retired non-citizen is permitted to invest in businesses, under the condition that: (a) They are not employed in the business, and (b) They do not receive any salary or employment benefits from the business.

Qualifications for Residency as a Retired Non-Citizen +50 Years

A Retired Non-Citizen must provide a certified bank statement from their country of origin or residence, demonstrating: a. A minimum balance of USD 18,000, or b. A guaranteed minimum income of USD 1,500 per month.

The National Electronic Licensing System is a dedicated online platform that manages the entire process, from application submission to receiving the approval in principle letter. Property Acquisition Under This Residency Option

As a foreign national, you are eligible to acquire residential properties developed under the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), Real Estate Scheme (RES), Property Development Scheme (PDS), or Smart City Scheme (SCS). You are also permitted to acquire apartments located in buildings with at least ground plus two floors. Additionally, a non-citizen holding a residence permit under IRS/RES/PDS is exempted from the requirement of obtaining an Occupation or Work Permit for investment and work purposes in Mauritius.

Accompanying Family Members

Mauritius’ immigration policies actively encourage family reunification. Dependents of Occupation Permit holders and/or Retired non-citizens can apply for a residence permit, allowing them to reside in Mauritius for the same duration as the main holder. Dependents encompass the spouse (including Common Law Partner of the opposite sex), parents, and unmarried children (including stepchildren or lawfully adopted children) not engaged in any gainful activity. Application for a Dependent Residence Permit is submitted to and determined by the Passport and Immigration Office.

Taxation Considerations

Transfers of funds to Mauritius are not subject to taxation. There are no taxes on wealth or inheritance.

Note: Retired Non-Citizens should provide information on other residences they may have in different jurisdictions, including tax residences. This information will be shared with the Mauritian Tax Authority to align with the prevailing Common Reporting Standard (CRS) adopted by the Republic of Mauritius.

After the 10 Years

Upon expiration, you are eligible to renew your Residence Permit for an additional 10 years.

  1. Birth Certificate – original (in English or French) or a certified/sworn translated copy by a competent authority.
  2. Passport – Biodata page
  3. Certificate of Character / Police Clearance for the last ten years – less than six months old
  4. Recent color passport size digital photograph – dimensions 3.5cm (413 pixels) x 4.5cm (531 pixels) (less than six months old)
  5. Signed undertaking – filled and signed by the applicant.
  6. Copy of any other permit, if applicable– Occupation Permit/Work/Residence Permit

Documents to be uploaded after Approval-In-Principle

  1. Bank statement (Evidence of funds available on the certified bank statement from the retired non-citizen’s country of origin or residence)
  2. Marriage Certificate / Divorce Certificate– original (in English or French) or a certified/sworn translated copy by a competent authority.
  3. Medical Certificate and reports – less than six months old
  4. Last entry visa pages
  5. Copy of any other permit, if applicable– Occupation Permit/Work/Residence Permit
  6. Processing fee
  7. Any other required documents.

RENEWAL Preliminary documents are to be uploaded online for Approval-In-Principle

  1. Certificate of morality for the last 3 years in Mauritius – less than six months old
  2. Passport – Biodata page
  3. Bank statement (Evidence of transfer of funds from abroad to a local bank account)
  4. Recent color passport size digital photograph – dimensions 3.5cm (413 pixels) x 4.5cm (531 pixels) (less than six months old)
  5. Copy of Residence Permit
  6. Signed undertaking – filled and signed by the applicant
